As the german gymnastics federation (DTB) announced on tuesday, the multisport event from thursday to sunday in the castello in dusseldorf in the olympic sports rhythmic gymnastics, trampoline and apparatus gymnastics can not be carried out. The DTB officials have agreed on this in talks with the organizer and the relevant authorities in north rhine-westphalia.
The DTB regrets the final cancellation of the event, but was forced to take this measure in the first week of the nationwide partial lockdown due to the rising number of infections in germany. "I deeply regret that we have to do without the title bouts, because i think it is extremely important that we offer athletes competitions also for motivation," said DTB president alfons holzl.
For the top athletes around record champion elisabeth seitz and andreas toba, the cancellation of the national title competitions is another bitter blow in view of the preparations for the olympic games in tokyo next year. "Of course i find it a pity that the german championship was cancelled. But I can totally understand it," said seitz from stuttgart. "We must now all have a certain amount of time to understand and be consistent."
The DTB had already cancelled the participation of its gymnastics teams in the european championships in december, which had been postponed to turkey. Even the german gymnastics festival planned for summer 2021 in leipzig could not take place because of the corona pandemic.
