According to the city of bamberg, since the early hours of thursday morning, the winter road clearance service has been in action with five coarse and two narrow-gauge vehicles as well as three small tractors to spread the icy roads.
"Since the day before yesterday, there have been warnings of bad weather, and we have prepared ourselves accordingly, explains florian probst from the disposal and construction company (EBB). The city's winter service is well prepared for the upcoming operations, probst explains: "our emergency plans are in place, the salt storage is filled and fuel supplies are also sufficient".
250 kilometers of roads, 60 kilometers of paths
The entire city area is surveyed, which corresponds to about 250 kilometers of roads and 60 kilometers of walking and biking paths. All the stretches of road have been manned by the manual cleaners: "we are in full operation", says probst.
He also points out, however, that according to the municipal statutes, the residents are responsible for clearing and gritting the sidewalks. Also, many citizens had not yet prepared for winter.
Those who rely on the car should plan more time and the bicycle as a means of transport is not recommended. In addition, it should be paid attention to put on firm footwear.
